Bars and event spaces in Tottenham and Seven Sisters are transforming this formerly unloved area of north London into a zeitgeist destination, and Deptford’s budding food scene provides (another) reason to get a DLR south.
Tott’s amaze “Growing up in Haringey, I’ve always known the energy of Tottenham,” says Felix Mortimer, founder of Styx, a chameleonic events venue that has hosted theatre, club nights and live music (5 Ashley Road, N17, styx.space).
Mortimer also namechecks Beavertown and Five Miles breweries, Stronghold Climbing Gym, Punchdrunk’s arts warehouse space and Chicken Town healthy fast food, and credits the Night Tube for enlivening the area.
Up goes the neighbourhood: a party at Styx Beavertown Brewery is invariably packed (Lockwood Industrial Park, Mill Mead Road, N17, beavertownbrewery.co.uk), as is Craving Coffee, which as well as serving Climpson Sons coffee, hosts supper clubs and exhibitions by local artists: this weekend, Chale Let’s Eat will be serving Ghanaian cuisine (Gaunson House, Markfield Road, N15, cravingcoffee.co.uk).
